Phil moved to the United Stockport Circuit from Cumbria where he was stationed as a Methodist minister for over twenty years. Prior to that Phil worked in agriculture and the National Health Service. Most recently, since his retirement, Phil has been a Councillor with the Westmorland and Furness Unitary Authority, sitting on several committees including the Children and Young People's Scrutiny Committee which he chaired. Phil has a long standing interest in the welfare of children and young people, especially those who have experienced care; and also education – being the Chair of Governors at his local secondary school.
Phil has three adult daughters and five grandchildren – and a black Cocker Spaniel called Matty. His interests are wide and varied but on occasion he has been known, variously, as Bouncy Castle Man, Rocket Rev and the Punk Vicar. As a committed Christian God, has Phil into the most unexpected places – making manifest the words of the Apostle Paul 'No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him'. To date, life has been a glorious roller-coaster of experiences and Phil is excited to discover what new plans God has in store in Stockport. Phil lives by Paul's guiding principle 'I become all things to all people, that I may save some of them by whatever means are possible'.
