Woodley Methodist Church – Chapel Street Woodley SK6 1NF

Our Church has been a part of the community in Woodley since 1868 and then in 1998 we rebuilt the Church and was officially re opened on the 6th September 1998 by Rev Ron Hoar B.D. President of the Methodist Conference.

We are a welcoming Church with easy access to the building and appropriate facilities for those with mobility difficulties and for those with visual or hearing impairments. We have a Car Park to the rear of the Church Hall and spaces for anyone with a disability. There is also a Public Car park as you enter Chapel Street.

Our Church Services are at 10.15am each Sunday, and are led by one of the circuit team of ministers and preachers, with occasional congregation-led "local arrangements".

Our regular activities include:
Our fabulous thrift shop and mission café, which are open from 9:30am to 12:00 noon each Wednesday and Saturday. The shop has a continuously updated stock of clothes, books, games, and all sort of other things at fantastic prices. The funds from the café are donated to local, national and international charities.
Bible studies – twice monthly with a choice of online (Monday evenings) or in-person (Tuesday mornings at Romiley Methodist Church). Contact the minister for more details
A monthly lunch club – great food and chat at a bargain price. Booking required, so get in touch for dates if you are interested.
Knit and Knatter – once a month on Wednesday mornings
Musical Memories – the last Friday of the month from 2-4pm, a time of social singing for those with dementia and those without. We meet in the Church. Contact is Phil Taylor 0161 430 8518.
Games/social evening – Thursday evenings from 7:30pm

Join us for FundayMondays – with a variety of activities around our monthly theme for all ages.
Our next dates are:
Monday 20th March – "Lost and Found"
Monday 17th April – "Easter Extravaganza"
The session runs from 3:15pm to 5pm and includes drinks and snacks.
Cost – nothing!

We also have twice yearly concerts, a traditional carol service and other seasonal events. See our Facebook page for up to date details.

We are committed to supporting a wide variety of charities through the café, concerts and special collections. These include All We Can and, the Wellspring in Stockport. We provide ongoing support for the Pulane Children's Centre in Lesotho, Southern Africa. The centre cares for about 70 orphaned or vulnerable children from the local area. It was started 12 years ago by a Methodist missionary, Jill Kinsey, who is still involved, and is now overseen by Grant and Emily Strugnell. The centre also operates a Shepherd school. Many people in Lesotho are poor and a high proportion of children in rural areas work as shepherds. The school provides them with a hot meal four evenings a week, and lessons in basic reading and writing.

Our building also provides a home for several groups from our local community who partner with us in providing support and enrichment to local people. Our regular users are:

  • Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) who meet on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday evenings (see The AA Website for more details)
  • Stockport Accordion Club on Wednesday evenings
  • Martin Goddard School of Art on Thursday mornings
  • Stars Dance Academy – classes in all sort of dancing for all ages, plus toddler groups (see their Facebook page for details and contact information)

Up to date information on services and other activities can be found on our Facebook page, the concerts Facebook page and the thrift shop Facebook page.
